Whilst minding my own business on a recent visit to Trader Joe's, a giant stalk of brussel sprouts looked up at me and said, "You know I'm a cooking adventure waiting to happen." I was surprised because I didn't know brussel sprouts could talk. I looked at it, amused because knew it was right, picked it up and added it to my shopping basket. I had some bacon at home in my fridge and bourbon in the bar, so I knew what had to happen next.
Bourbon Bacon Brussel Sprouts!
HOW TO MAKE BACON BOURBON BRUSSEL SPROUTS:
Start chopping. I began with a chef's knife, but it was just too unwieldy, so I continued with a pairing knife as demo'd in my incredibly high quality video below.
After you remove all the little sprouts, place them in a pretty colander.
Marvel at your work and the goodness that is brussel sprouts. Then rinse them.
Cut each sprout in half, lengthwise.
Throw them in a roasting pan and drizzle olive oil over the lot. Toss. Then add bite size pieces of uncooked bacon and stir to distribute evenly. Pop into a 400 degree Fahrenheit oven for about 30 minutes. Check periodically and stir.
Once sufficiently roasted, transfer to a cast iron frying pan over medium-high heat.
Add about a tablespoon of bourbon and cook for a few minutes until alcohol evaporates. (Note to self: add Maker's to grocery list. This one is donsies)
I even added a little Dijon mustard, because yum.
I had to sample it straight from the pan. Very good.
But, eventually you may decide to part with some to allow others to try it. :)
